ATTENDANCE
Campus Hours are from 8:15 am - 3:10 pm. Main entrance doors are open at 8 am and lock at 3:30 pm.
Absence/Dismissal Procedures:
Illness and Emergency Absences - Whenever a student is absent from school, the parent/guardian must call the attendance office before 8:00 am (Phone# 488-5401) on the morning of the absence. When calling in an absence, please leave the date, name of student, ID#, and reason for absence.
Dismissal During the School Day – If a student must leave school for an appointment, he/she must check out at the attendance office with a parent/guardian present. The student must have a written permission note from the parent/guardian to the attendance office at the beginning of school. A dismissal slip from the attendance office will be given to the student for the classroom. Upon returning from the appointment, the student must check in with the attendance office for an entry pass.
Pre-Arranged Absences – When a parent/guardian knows in advance that a student will be absent, we request that a note be sent to the attendance office with the dates and reason for the absence. The attendance office will provide a Pre-Arranged Absence Assignment Form for the student to have completed by his / her teachers.
Tardiness – Punctuality is a valuable life skill. Kinard students are expected to be on time. Any student who is late for school must report to the attendance / health office to receive a class entry pass. In order to receive an excused tardy pass, a student must have a signed written note, or a phone call from the parent/guardian indicating the tardy is for an appropriate reason.
DRESS CODE
At Kinard, we follow the PSD dress code, which can be found in 2012-13 Student Rights and Code of Conduct booklet and Kinard’s Parent/Student Handbook. Students at Kinard need to dress so that clothing covers the torso and does not reveal personal garments; shoes need to be worn at all times; hats and backpacks may not be worn during the school day and need to be kept in lockers.
If a student does not meet the dress code expectations, the student and an adult will have a respectful conversation to address the issue of appropriate clothing at school. After the conversation, the student will be sent to the office and asked to call home in order to have the appropriate clothing brought to school. If the student continues to violate the dress code, there may be disciplinary consequences.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
Fire Drills and Lockdown Drills
Per PSD policy, we practice fire drills and lockdown/lockout drills to help staff and students understand the process and procedure for response.
Lockout
Kinard may be put in Lockout when there is police activity in the surrounding neighborhood. When Kinard is placed in Lockout, all activity inside the school is “business as usual”. No students or staff are allowed outside of school. All exterior doors are secured and locked.
Lockdown
A school Lockdown can be initiated for circumstances that would require staff and students to be secured in classrooms. When Kinard is placed in Lockdown, all exterior doors, windows and access points are closed and locked to secure the area and protect those inside of the building. In addition, staff will secure students in their classrooms.
During a Lockout or Lockdown staff and administration will be focused on the event and keeping staff and students safe. Communication about the incident will be through the PSD website, which will have the most current information. Kinard will use school e-mail and/or voice mail to communicate updates as soon as possible. Please avoid calling the school directly during a Lockout or Lockdown so as to allow the office staff to focus on the safety of the student population.
School Closure Due to Weather
Information about school closings due to inclement weather is broadcasted on local radio and TV stations beginning at 6 a.m. The Poudre School District website will also post information on school closures.
SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER GUIDELINES
Guidelines for our School Resource Officers are available on the PSD website psdschools.org. Kinard's School Resource Officer is Maureen Noe.
DRUG DOG PROCEDURES
To sustain a drug-free school community, PSD uses the random use of drug dogs on school premises during the school day once or twice a year. Drug dogs may be taken to all areas of the school premises, including student lockers, classrooms, locker rooms, and parking lots.
HEALTH OFFICE / MEDICATION POLICY
Kinard's School Nurse is Misti Neil and the Heath Tech is Kim Visee.
Kinard's Health Office phone number: 488-5441 / Health Office FAX: 488-5433
Medication Policy - All medications--whether prescription, over-the-counter, long-term or short-term, or asthma inhalers--require a PSD Authorization and Release to Administer Medication Form signed by both the prescribing practitioner and the parent/guardian. This includes Tylenol, etc. The form must be renewed yearly, forms are available in the health office and on PSD's Health Services webpage. All medications must be in the original bottle/container/package, whether prescription or over-the-counter. No medications will be accepted in envelopes, plastic bags, etc. All medications will be kept in a locked cabinet in the health office. Students may go down to the health office when medication is needed. Students may carry asthma inhalers once a PSD Carry and Self-Administer Prescribed Medicine--Asthma-Allergy Form is completed and on file.

TRANSPORTATION
STUDENT DROP OFF-PICK UP
Drop-Off Expectations
Upon entering the Kinard oval, you will notice two lanes along the oval. If you are dropping off your child, you must stay on the outside lane. The inside lane is a drive through lane that facilitates afternoon pick-up and allows for parents to enter the parking lot for parking only.
Drive along the oval and as far west as possible up past the music entrance before dropping off students. Students enter the building through the music entrance doors. If the traffic along the oval comes to a stop, and you are next to a curb, you may drop off your child, and they can use the sidewalk to walk to the music doors without risk.
Do not drop off students on Ziegler Rd, Lady Moon, E. Trilby, in the north parking lot, anywhere in the south parking lot (except along the oval’s sidewalk curb). No U-turns on E. Trilby (very dangerous).
Afternoon Pick-up
You may park and wait along either the Kinard oval, E. Trilby or the south parking lot. School ends at 3:10 pm. Many parents begin arriving at 3:00 pm. Once you’re parked and it is after 3:10 pm, use cell phones to communicate your location with your child. Once you have picked up your child, you may use the drive through lane to move around the oval. No U-turns and electronic devices after the pick-up (safety first).
School Zone
For the safety of us all, please remember that Kinard has a 20 mph school zone running north and south of Trilby/Lady Moon before and after school.
