Dear Kinard Community,

Kinard's 8th grade math students are excited to announce the Pennies 4 Pumps (P4Ps) fund-raiser that will take place from Thursday, 3/10 through Friday, 3/25. P4Ps is a scholarship fund developed to help families afford an insulin pump for a child with type 1 diabetes. Recently, one of our own 8th graders, Creighton Dehart, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. In addition, we have another Kinard student, Ryan Quaid that has been living with the disease for approximately three years now. Many of you know that my daughter, Elly Limon, also has type 1 diabetes. Elly has been diabetic since she was 12 months old. Statistics now show that 1 in 300 kids have type 1 diabetes. Pennies 4 Pumps is a local organization formed by one of our own PSD students, Leah Fox. Being diabetic, Leah also sells jewelry to raise money for the P4Ps scholarship fund and knows firsthand how this technology can provide a new sense of freedom to a child with diabetes. The goal of P4Ps is to provide financial help to bridge the gap between what insurance will cover and what a family can afford to pay for an insulin pump. The pump helps stabilize blood sugars, allows for diabetics to be free from multiple shots, and reduces the risk of eye, kidney, and nerve disease.

Today, the 8th graders will be delivering t-shirt order forms to all of our Kinard students. Also, you can download the order form from the Kinard website. The t-shirts cost $13, and for each shirt that is sold, $2.00 will be donated to Pennies 4 Pumps. We have partnered with CBR, Inc. to make the shirts. All t-shirt order forms can be turned into Terry Jansenn in the attendance office by Friday, 3/25, with checks made payable to CBR, Inc. T-shirts will be delivered to Kinard around the third week of March. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Limon at llimon@psdschools.org.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs. Limon
