About Me

Education and Professional Background:

I love being a part of the Mustang family as a 7th grade English teacher. I graduated with a Master of Education from Colorado State University during May of 2018. I am currently working on my Ph.D. in Education through CSU. Prior to teaching, I had a career in Advertising in New York, NY and Miami, FL. I worked with various clients among the pharmaceutical, tourism, hospitality, and restaurant industries. I left the world of Advertising because I felt the work I was doing was without purpose, and now I know I make a meaningful impact on a daily basis.

Personal Interests and Hobbies:

I moved to Fort Collins on January 1, 2016, and have been drinking the Colorado Kool-Aid since. My hobbies include trying to hike, reading, writing, and watching TV shows such as “The Office,” “Parks and Rec,” and “New Girl.” One of my favorite book series is Harry Potter, which is evident in some of my classroom decorations. I am also a fan of elephants and llamas!

About My Classroom:

In my classroom, I incorporate a wide variety of teaching strategies, which engage my students and ensure they are receiving the best education possible. As an English Language Arts teacher, it is my responsibility to foster skills in students, which not only support reading and writing, but also help my students become conscious consumers of knowledge in a variety of content areas. Students who enter my classroom are entering a brave space where their funds of knowledge are understood and embraced. It is a place where no student fears being wrong because mistakes are a natural part of life and inquiry. I am a firm believer students will not fully engage in a classroom setting if there is an underlying fear of being ridiculed for what they say. Within this space, students have time to explore various topics through different teaching strategies. Assessments in my classroom are purposeful and drive the learning which takes place with my students. I am never the teacher who assigns assessments and homework just to put another grade in the gradebook, but rather one who assigns every task with purposeful intent to drive learning targets. Overall, students entering my classroom accept the challenge to learn, succeed, and sometimes fail. I believe I instill in my students the knowledge to understand while I am an advocate for their education, they need to be one for themselves as well. I am hopeful my students are never afraid to ask questions, desire more from their education, or take risks.
