  • Diwali, also known as Deepavali, the Festival of Lightsis a five day celebration by millions around the world across Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. Diwali celebrates good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. This festival celebrates ideas that anyone can embrace to spread joy, unity, and kindness.

  • Each year on November 1st and 2nd, is also Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, a beautiful tradition that celebrates and honors loved ones who have passed away.  Families create vibrant *ofrendas (altars) adorned with photos, candles, flowers, and favorite foods, and come together to share stories and keep the memories of their loved ones alive. This cultural tradition is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the importance of family and remembrance.

  • The month of November is also Native American, American Indian, and Alaska Native Heritage Month. Throughout November, we honor the rich cultures, histories and daily contributions today of Native Americans in Fort Collins and beyond. We encourage everyone to visit the Kinard media center this month for books and resources coming soon that celebrate indigenous authors and honor these vibrant cultures.
