- This week, in our Media Center, we are honoring the life, work, and enduring legacy of Cesar Chavez. As a co-founder of the United Farm Workers, Cesar dedicated himself to advocating for the rights and dignity of agricultural laborers through activism and community organizing. His powerful words, “Si se puede!” (“Yes, it can be done!”), continue to inspire movements for justice and equity across generations. Chavez’s story reminds us that when people unite for a common cause, remarkable progress is possible. Please stop by the Kinard Media Center this week to check out the Smithsonian art and informational display honoring Cesar Chavez.
- This past weekend marked the start of Eid Al-Fitr, an annual three-day festival and feast for breaking the fasting month and accomplishment of Ramadan. Eid is one of two major holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world where family and friends gather for games and gifts to children and to enjoy special meals and sweet dishes like baklava (date filled pastries), and Kanafeh (sweet cheese pastries). To learn more about these two important Muslim holidays, please see the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr informational display in the Kinard Media Center.
