Kinard Character

Learning Culture

Kinard is a school community of character, a place where core values such as good judgment, best effort, respect, kindness, honesty, service and citizenship are modeled, upheld, celebrated and practiced in every part of the school's life - from the example of the adult, to the relationship among peers, the handling of discipline, the content of the curriculum, the rigor of academic standards, the conduct of extra curricular activities and the involvement of parents.

Content of character is expressed through our beliefs, behaviors and attitudes. We embrace attributes that foster strong and healthy relationships and a culture hospitable to learning:

  • Responsibility: Taking ownership for your actions, words, and the impact you have on yourself and others.
  • Positive Choices: Picking the better options that can make things go better for you and others.
  • Respect: Treating others the way you want to be treated. It's about being kind, asking questions, listening to what they have to say and considering their feelings.
  • Service: Doing helpful things for others or your community without expecting anything in return.

Kinard Culture

At Kinard parents can expect a culture in which:

  1. Each student is physically and emotionally safe.

  2. Students can succeed academically.

  3. Parents know that the adults responsible for their children understand students' needs and act to meet those needs.

Academic Environment

Core Knowledge is designed to provide "access to the best Knowledge available," including significant knowledge of diverse people and cultures. Our teachers use active approaches, collaboration, technology and choice to enhance student engagement and achievement. Along with Core Knowledge requirements in English, History, Science and Math, we value and recognize the importance of the arts: visual art and music. Students are challenged with Honors and accelerated classes, as well as supported with a plethora of learning interventions, which promote excellence and fairness for all students.

Instructional & Enrichment Programs

At Kinard we promote belonging through student involvement in curriculum and extra-curricular activities. Kinard students enjoy participation in athletics, as well as a wide variety of clubs.
